If your estate is worth more than £325,000, the part above this amount may be taxed at 40%.
Gifts to UK-registered charities are not taxed.
If your estate is worth more than £325,000 and you leave 10% or more to charity, a lower inheritance tax rate of 36% may apply to the rest of your estate instead of 40%.
This means less tax may be paid in overall.
