Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Getting diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma

You usually start by seeing your GP if you have symptoms. They will ask you about any symptoms and examine you. They will then decide whether to refer you for further tests or to a specialist.

If you have non-Hodgkin lymphoma you will need more tests to find out which lymph nodes are affected.

Seeing your GP when you have non-Hodgkin lymphoma symptoms

See your GP if you notice a change that isn't normal for you or if you have any of the possible signs and symptoms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Referral to a specialist for symptoms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Your GP should refer you to a specialist doctor if your symptoms could be due to non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Screening for non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Screening means testing people for early stages of a disease. There isn't a screening programme in the UK for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Tests to diagnose non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Your doctor usually diagnoses NHL by taking a sample (biopsy) from a swollen lymph node. You then have other tests to find out more about your NHL.
