You usually start by seeing your GP. They might refer you for tests or to a specialist if you have symptoms that could be caused by liver cancer.

See your GP if you notice a change that isn't normal for you or if you have any of the possible signs and symptoms of liver cancer.

Referral to a specialist for symptoms of liver cancer

Your GP should refer you to a specialist if your symptoms could be due to liver cancer.

Screening for liver cancer

There is no national screening programme for primary liver cancer in the UK. You might have regular checks if you are at high risk of developing it.

Tests for liver cancer

You have a number of tests to check for liver cancer. The tests you might have include blood tests and scans such as an ultrasound scan of the liver.
