Managing diet problems in cancer

There are ways to deal with eating, digestion or weight loss problems when you have cancer. Medicines, soft diets, adding calories to your diet or tube feeding are some of the ways to manage diet problems.

Speaking to your doctor, dietitian or specialist nurse can be the start of getting help.

Tips for diet problems

There are ways to deal with diet problems such as taste changes, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, constipation and sickness (nausea).

Tips for putting on weight

You can add calories to your diet to help you put on weight and increase your protein intake for growth and repair.

Soft diet

A soft diet can help if you have difficulty swallowing because of your cancer or its treatment.

Drip or tube feeding

You may need drip or tube feeding if you need extra nourishment as a result of weight loss or your treatment.

Eating in hospital

Eating in the hospital can be a problem if you're not feeling well and getting used to a different routine.
